The most common problem in the accurate display of colors is the gamma correction setting of your monitor.  To help you judge the accuracy of your monitor setting, view the picture below.  The outer portion of each color rectangle is a dithered pattern of pixels with lightness values of 0 and 255.  The pixels in the inner portion has a lightness value of 128.  If your monitor settings are correct, the inner and outer portions will have equal brightness.   If you monitor settings need to be corrected, consult your monitor and/or operating system manuals or help manual to determine how to correct your gamma settings.
