November 11, 2002 The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by President Larry Everett. Sixteen members were present. The motion to dispense with the reading of the minutes was made by Georgia Otten and seconded by Bev Acord. The motion passed. Treasurer, Mac Otten, reported an opening balance of $227.69. Income from dues totaled $30.00, and interest income was $1.01. Disbursements of $36.63 for secretary's supplies leaves an ending balance of $220.07. Led by program chairperson, Ron Hufford, the following schedule for programs for the coming year was developed: December - Christmas Party January - Milk Glass - led by Georgia Otten February - Strange/Wierd/Unusual Items (Bring a piece of Cambridge that you consider strange, wierd, or unusual. Give information about your piece.) March - Book Look: 27-29 Catalog (Bring your catalog, having looked through the catalog beforehand to find something unusual, that you never knew before, that you find puzzling, that you have never seen before. Be prepared to share with the group.) April - Lookalikes (Bring examples of easily confused patterns or items that are often mistaken for Cambridge. Be prepared to tell how you can distinguish them from Cambridge.) May - Floral Etches - (Bring examples of your favorite floral etch and some research information on your pattern.) There were fourteen members of the Miami Valley Study Group present at the November Quarterly Meeting. Reports at the Quarterly Meeting on the Museum included news that a new roof is needed; 1100 people visited the Museum this season; study clubs or individuals are needed to volunteer to fill the small display area to the left of the display rooms along the back wall of the Museum; Alex Citron asked for articles for the Crystal Ball. The Wollenhaupts and the Everetts did a program for the West Virginia Glass Club in Cambridge two weeks ago. Four topics were covered: flower frogs, swans, confusing colors, and nude stems. Georgia Otten reported on plans for convention. If you have ideas or suggestions, talk to Georgia or Shelley Citron. The motion to adjourn was made by Ron Hufford and seconded by Dave Rankin. The title is "Earth, Sand, and Fire: Ohio Glass and Pottery 1000 BC to 2003 AD". Some dates to remember: January 13-14: Exhibit area available January 18-19: We will set up January 24: Preview Party 6-8 PM January 25: Exhibit opens Dave passed out a list of items the Ohio Historical Society is lending the exhibit. He also reported that there will be "interest cards" for visitors to fill out. People who are going to have items in the exhibit are to have their inventory lists to Dave by mid-December. Our club is responsible for putting on several Sunday afternoon programs at the Boonshoft Museum during the exhibit. Possible subjects suggested were: Nearcut, Swans, Nude Stems, Fostoria, Flower Frogs, Color Comparisons, Heisey Candlesticks, Everglade. Next Event: The Christmas party will be at Will and Bev Acord's, December 14, 3:00 PM. Bring a side dish, appetizer, or dessert to share.
