February 11, 2003 The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by the President, Larry Everett. There were twelve members present. It was moved and seconded to dispense with the reading of the minutes as they had been mailed to each member. The Treasurer reports a balance on hand of $255.99. Old Business: Larry Everett thanked everyone who helped to set up the exhibit at the Boonshoft Museum. We plan to add more Cambridge and Heisey glass to the collection when more new shelves come in. As our thanks to the curators, it was suggested that we invite them to the picnic and/or the pig roast. Georgia Otten will be presenting the program on Sunday on "Colors". Georgia Otten reported that the program for convention is being published in the Crystal Ball. Michael and/or Laurie Palmer have agreed to be the program speakers for the banquet on Saturday evening. They will be discussing "Charlton" decoration, and will bring some of their collection to the convention. Judy Rhoads outlined the mentoring program. She will be calling for volunteer mentors at the quarterly meeting in March. New Business: David Rankin reported that we have lost our free web site. It was a genealogy site, and all non-genealogy subjects have been dropped. Some alternatives were discussed, but there is a cost to register the site. The next NCC Board Meeting will be February 28, 2003, at 1:30 p.m. at the Convention Center in Cambridge. There being no further business, it was moved by Ken Rhoads and seconded by Frank Wollenhaupt to adjourn. The meeting adjourned at 7:20 p.m. Show and Tell: #96 Half pound Candy in Cobalt 1 with gray cutting, and signed; #3138 goblet with Spring Beauty cutting; #3112 goblet in royal blue w/crystal stem and blue foot; #1236 keyhole stem Ivy Ball in light emerald w/gray cutting; #1917/384 5oz covered syrup on under plate in Topaz; #675 Martha Washington 9 ½" bowl in Goldenrod experimental color; #882 4" tobacco humidor with moistener with red enamel encrusted dragon; #241 4 ½" Caprice vase in Royal Blue; #17 Everglade 13" bowl in forest green. Program: The program was a discussion and presentation of strange, weird, or unusual Cambridge items. Members brought items from their collections, and told something about the item. Some examples were the 1956 ham bone ashtray with flower frog; #1402/86 Tally-Ho ash tray in carmen with crystal handle; and a Carmen sweet potato vase with aero-optic. There was a #300 candy dish and lid in Goldenrod Showers, which was a very short lived color. There were asparagus and lobster plates, the only pieces of Cambridge that have a depiction on them as to what they are used for. There was also a #1040 swan in crystal with a silver overlay. The next meeting will be March 11, 2003. Respectfully submitted, |
